To whom it may concern
My name is Janine and my 14 month old son has had glasses for long-sightedness and astigmatism since he was 11 months (still hates them) and we have been patching for amblyopia for about a month (he has bilateral congenital ptosis). We have also encountered many struggles with the patch!
I write to you to ask permission to post a survey on Little Four Eyes regarding patching. In light of all our struggles I have decided to write a children's book which aims to represent patching in a positive light while not making a big issue of it. I still need to do some research though and I imagine that this is the best place to do that!
Please forgive me, I am not very familiar with this website so I am unaware of the procedures.
Thank you for your time

Thank you for this site, it has been so helpful for me in the past week since we discovered my 13 month old daughter needs glasses. I write a blog called "Mommy, Ever After" and just tonight wrote a post, sharing my recent "four eyes" experience which you can read here: http://mommyeverafter.wordpress.com/2011/05/24/four-eyes/
I would be happy to publish this piece (or any other you would like) on your sight, as I think this is a valuable community for many. Please let me know! Thanks, Rebecca

Thank you so much for this site! I just found out that my 18 month old son is far-sighted and needs glasses. The news was hard to digest at first, but after reading your stories and viewing all the adorable pics I am starting to feel at ease.
Erin Q,

Just wondering if you had any updates on little Juliet. My daughter who will be 5 shortly was just diagnosed with the same condition as Juliet - accomodative esotropia (convergence excess) and will need bifocals. We have an appointment with our PO in 3 weeks (we have been waiting for 5-6 months). The anxiety and wait is killing me... Does Erin have any advice on how easy or difficult it was for her child to adjust to bifocals? I'm a little concerned that she won't be able to see without them as her eyes will cross without them but perhaps she can still see? Any advice, words of wisdom would be so much appreciated! Helps knowing we are not alone.

Wow, now I'm really glad Ann Z. left a comment on my site leading me to THIS site! After those last couple comments about Amblyopia and the patch, etc... Since my oldest was just diagnosed w/ Amb. and got his glasses, I really wasn't sure just how serious Amb. could turn out. I had some facts but looks like I should do a some research on my own too. Brendan's doing good keeping his glasses on, but he could end up doing the patch too. I'll check out that website on framehuggers as well.

Thanks for a great site and sharing, girls!

my biggest advice to you is talk to Camille at Framehuggers! She is wonderful. She has developed a patch that slides over the glasses and it is so much more pleasant for children or anyone with amblyopia for that matter. It allows the child to still have their eye open and it doesnt stick they eye down in any shape or form making it much more appealing, it is made to measure your glasses for a perfect fit and totally occludes the eye.My daughter would not be patching today if it were not for her. Go to www.framehuggers.com the patches are brilliant.

Hi Ann-Hope you guys had a happy new year! I'm checking out this website because my sister needs advice...hoping some of your contributors or readers can help...She has a 7 year old (who had surgery for amblyopia almost a year ago)and Allie is now supposed to wear a patch 4 hours per day. she WILL NOT keep the patch on her eye. My sis is at a total loss. They argue, fight, and cry. Allie tears the patch off and will not keep it on. Any ideas? They've been told by their doc that "this is it"--if she doesn't wear the patch to strengthen her other eye, the vision may never be strong enough for anything-driving, etc....ugh.

Any readers out there have experience dealing with older kids and refusal to wear the patch? What should my sister do?
